Dirk Van Halewyck

Born on 12.01.1961. At the age of ten he started with trumpetlessons, given by his father, who was and is trombone-player in the Saxophone Orchestra of Zwijndrecht. At the age of 12 he was the youngest member of this orchestra.

Later he followed lessons at the Jazz academy of the Antwerp Big Band, conducted by Freddy Sunder, which he would joint to play the trumpet. At the same time he was a founding member of the popgroup "The Left Bank City Gang".

When the Antwerp Big Band fell apart, he quited trumpet playing as well.

But the passion for jazz remained and a few years ago he started taking singing lessons, first with Sonja Pelgrims, and later on with Lisa Hugo, with whom he's performing together in this Lush Live project.

 

Peter Verbraken

Peter was born in 1956. He first studied classical guitar, followed bij more modern music styles.

In his teens he played in several ball orchestra's and accompanied numerous artists.
In 1976 Peter started with teaching guitar lessons, prior to getting the First Prize Chords ath the Conservatory of Ghent and getuigschriften in harmony and Jazz-arranging.
The lessons followed with Joe Pass were the breaktrough in his passion for Jazzmusic.


At the Ghent Conservatory and privately he studies Jazz guitar, arrangements and harmony with Freddy Sunder. This put him in contact with the courses of Berklee en GIT.   
Peter teached arrangements and jazz-harmony at the Conservatory of Antwerp. With the start of the Jazz-division Peter teatches until now also at the Ghent Conservatory the courses Jazz-Guitar, Pop-Guitar, MIDI ans Bass.

In between Peter toured 3 years in France with Frank Michael. The highlight was a concertshow of 3 weeks in the Olympia-stadium in Paris.

His long experience with numerous orchestra's, like Lou Roman, Caravelli and many others made his a much appreciated live- and studio guitar/bass player in Belgium and abroad.

He accompanied during this 30 year career more that 300 artists.

Janos Bruneel

Janos Bruneel (1983, Antwerp, Belgium) was born into a musical family and at age 6 he started to play the piano. When he was 15 he discovered the electric bass, which stimulated him to start playing jazz music and eventually the double bass at he age of 16. From then on, he studied at The Art Academy of Antwerp.

In 2008 he gratuated from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and Brussels, where his teachers were Hein van de Geyn, Frans van der Hoeven and Christophe Wallemme.  Recently he became a teacher Double Bass himself, at the Royal Conservatary of The Hague.

In the meantime Janos is playing regularly in Belgium and Holland. With his own band Vice Versa (winner of the national performing arts contest of the Dexia Bank Belgium in 2001) he played on Jazz à Liège Festival and in the Royal Operahouse of Brussels.

With several groups, he won numerous awards:

Janos plaed in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Canada, France, Finland, Dubai, Switserland, Tsjechia and Slowakije, and played on festivals like the North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz à Liège, Brussels Jazz Marathon, Turku Jazz Festival, Dubai Jazz Festival, Jongerenfestival van De Munt, Gaume Jazz Festival, Flageystival, Eu’ Ritmix Festival,…

Pieter Vandergooten

Born in Antwerp, in 1979. He started to play the drums at the age of 9 in the music academy of Schoten with Walter Mertens.

After some years private lessons with pop-drummer Michael Schack he came in contact with jazz by Teun Verbruggen and Bruno Vansina.

During his study years he was taught by Garcia Morales, Pieter Bast, Stephane Galland, Dom Famularo, John Engels, … He graduated in 2006, in Brussels as a Master in Music.

Plays/played with Dirk Van der Linden, Hans Vanoost, Bruno Vansina, Andy Declerck, Dirk Schreurs, Roman Korolik, Carlo Nardozza, Janos Bruneel, Swa Mercelis, Pierre Anckaert, Peter Schneider, Steven Delannoye, …

 

Beside his own Pieter Vandergooten Quartet (www.pietervandegooten.be), with which he preformed lately at the Antwerp Harbour Jazz & Soul Festival he is also active in other bands as a sideman.

 

Bram Weijtjes

°1980 Sint-Niklaas. Eight years old, Bram started music courses at the music school in his birth town, attending piano and percussion classes. 
As a teenager he played in several rockbands.

After completing secondary education, he was admitted to the Antwerp Conservatory. Amongst his teachers were Erik Vermeulen and Christoph Erbstösser. After graduating for jazz piano in Antwerp he went to the Brussels Conservatory, where he graduated in 2005 for jazzcompostion and arranging.

 

Bram took lessons and attended masterclasses a.o. from Kenny Werner, Anthony Braxton, Gary Peacock, Mark Turner, Dave Liebman, Bill Carrotters, Bert Joris, …

Bram participated in a wide range of projects.  He played in several jazz formations, but he
performed as well with people from the hip hopscene like “Jerboa” and with rockgroups like “Giants of the Air” (finalist Humo rockrally 2004), and accompanied French Chansons of Aznavour in the program “Aznavoners”.

With these projects he performed in jazz- and youthclubs, on festivals as well as in
concerthalls and in culture centres.

Currently Bram plays in Lush Live and these other bands: Dez Mona, Hamster Axis of the One Click Panther and his own Bram Weijters trio.
